RefTeX uses faces when available to structure the selection
and table of contents buffers. It does not create its own faces,
but uses the ones defined in font-lock.el.
Therefore, RefTeX will use faces only when font-lock
is loaded. This seems to be reasonable because people who like
faces will very likely have it loaded. If you wish to turn off
fontification or change the involved faces, see Options
